“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 4:23-24

That’s our hope and prayer for the music we create and the gatherings of worship we lead, that they give people the freedom to be truthful and free in their spirits with God.

We have found incredible depths of comfort, joy and healing through singing to Jesus with our spirits and our whole hearts.

No performing, no pretending.

It’s easy to feel like we need to change some part of ourselves before we can get close to God, but the truth is, He wants our truthful hearts more than a show.

We can sing to him when we’re celebrating. We can sing to him when we’re doubting. We can sing when we’re hurting. When we feel good about ourselves, and not so good. God wants all of us, the truth, not just the rated G parts.

Then there’s spirit. Spirit’s a harder concept to nail down but think atmosphere, a sense of knowing, the deepest part of yourself, your essence. That’s spirit. If you let God’s Spirit interact with yours, can we just say, crazy things start to happen.

We’ve found spirit is more palpable in certain places than others, spirit seems to move more freely in the natural things. A forest, a stream, the sky, the face or gestures of a person, music.

For us, to worship in spirit and truth means summoning the deepest, most honest parts of ourselves to interact with the deepest, truest Part of Reality, God.

Your Arms spontaneously came into being during a worship time with a small group of friends. The lyrics are: “We could just sit and rest in your presence. Your arms are big enough to hold us.” Listen all the way through there is a musical surprise at the end!
